No such calm before the storm

Indeed...as the Fringe begins to edge closer, things seem to be getting busier. Following a short r & d week with Barrowland Ballet it was down to Newcastle for a week in the Open Art Surgery held at Dance City. This is an initiative by Jonzi D and now steered by Breakin' Convention wiht an aim to develope the ideas and working methods of local hip hop crews. Bad Taste Cru, Sana Crew and local DJs and MCs put themselves on the spot and produced a series of very fine works in progress under the watchful eye of myself and Jonzi D. It was a very rewarding week from my point of view, as got to work more on my skills as creator and mentor. At the end of the day the most important aspect is how we communicate in order to get out ideas across and establish a good, productive working environment...and that takes work. The hip hop community is definitely alive and kicking in Newcastle and very together. It was refreshing to be around a scene that has a strong sense of community. You can view some pictures from the week here. Of course no week in the Open Art Surgery would be complete without a little soiree...

Turntablism used to be hot in Edinburgh back in the day. This is the first time i've seen a little bit of this  in the clubs for a while. Scratching by DJ Woody and Rasp.

I'm now in London town doing class and a some training. This weekend see's the Shoreditch Festival come to town. Man of the moment Eddie Spoons is single handedly propping up the Hoxton community with various events. I'll be getting down, Djing and supporting them. If you're about then come see....
